have you ever wondered why in the Indian communities the only music we seem to appreciate is music that our ancestors may have created 100s of years ago or filmy music which has been popularized. For instance, why is it that in all the music competitions such as sa re ga ma pa etc most singers just repeat some old hit songs, why isn’t there any scope for creativity? why are the budding singers not forced to think differently, create their own image?
This has been bothering me for some time now, I think there is fundamental flaw somewhere. Is it the case that Indians only like and appreciate “tried and tested” stuff. That cannot be, then we would not have seen some of the artists we call “tried and tested” today. It is possible that majority of Indians “don’t care” and those who do care are the ones who encourage and bring someone new into the limelight and rest of us just “follow”?
