Roads Of Vedas

Enjoy this beautiful Annamacharya Keerthana Yadhuta Unnadu by Bhavadhaarini Anantaraman

It’s the festive season in Tirupati. Tiruchanoor Brahmotsavams are underway, that means there is lighting, decoration, vedic chants, beautiful carnatic music and Annamacharya keerthanas on the roads. There are loudspeakers everywhere. You can only get this experience in few places. I took a picture on my mobile this morning, here is a sample decoration on the way to the Padmavathi Ammavari temple.

Listen to this clip of vedic chants on the roads of Tiruchanoor. How often do you hear these in this fast moving world. When homes, tea stalls, cars, mobiles banging away the latest number from a rip-off clone of western tune is the trend of the day, hearing vedic chants on the main roads is not only pleasant but also essential.

Today our minds and bodies are polluted beyond imagination. No one has time to think of what is happening to their body and the mind, most people are leading lives like a rudderless boat, floating in every which direction the winds blow. Life has become just a meaningless pursuit of trinkets like the latest mobile or the super cool new car.

Enjoy another Annamacharya Keerthana Narayanthe Namo Namo by Allam Koteswara Rao on Veena.

Don’t mistake me, I am a big believer in worldly pursuits. We are not here only for self-realization but also for pushing our limits, achieving, making a dent in this universe. Of course we should strive to be the best we can be, to see how much we can earn, to see how much we can learn, to see how well we can sing, to stretch our muscles to reach our best athletic performance, to see how well we can write. However, let us not forget that happiness is in the achieving and not in the achievement.

Let us not only dance to the tune of Gangnam style or Kolaveri. Let us also dance to the tune of Muddugare Yashoda and above all, let us not lose sight of the mirage that is life, as Annamacharya did in his Kriti Nanati Bathuku.
