Maya Govind

Maya Govind is an ardent Hindi poetess and song lyricist. Along with her lyrical skill, she is also a good dancer and a stage artist. She also worked as a teacher. She has a mastery over Hindu language, which she taught in school as a teacher. Maya was also an active participant of a theater group Darpan, but later she leaved it due to personal reasons. Maya was born in Lucknow. She has earned a degree in Education. Later she also earned a degree from Bhatkande Music University. She was used to participate in Mushairas and Kavi Sammelans, where she recites her own poetry. During one of such sammelans, she caught the attention of director producer Atma-Ram. Followed by it Atma-Ram immediately signed her to write lyrics for his film Aarop (1974). Maya skillfully penned the lyrics for the film, which gave hit numbers like "Jabse Tumane Bansi Bajaayi Re" and "Naino Me Darpan Hai". It was also a first Hindi film for music composer, Dr Bhupen Hazarika. After her very first successful run, she was signed for Ramanand Sagar"s "Jalte Badan". For this film, the combination of Laxmikant-Pyarelalji composer duo and Maya"s lyrics again gave hit songs like- "Ham wo hai jo apane ghar ko jalakar" and "Ganv ganv ghumein shehar shehar chhana". After the success of first two films, she gets flooded with numbers of films. Some of those films include Qaid, Pyar Ka Rahi, Aafat, Pighalta Aasmaan, Jeet Hamari, Khanjar, Rang Birangi, Mere Baad, Khush Naseeb, Jhoothi, Taqdeer, Main Aur Mera Haath, and Tohfa Muhabbat Ka. Although, she gets flooded with no. of offers, she was unable to make any remarkable hit in the following fifteen years. Meanwhile, Maya Govind gets recognized again with the songs like "Gutoor Gutoor" from Dalaal, "Aankho me base ho tum" from Takkar, "Darwaza khula chod aayi" from Naajayaz and "Mein Khiladi Tu Anari" from Mein Khiladi Tu Anari. Her later films in Bollywood includes Premyog, Policewala Gunda, Janta Ki Adalat, Maharaja, Naaraz, Rock Dancer, Aar Ya Paar, Kismet, Maidan-E-Jung, Gaja Gamini and Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam.
